Kairakuen
One of Japan's Three Great Gardens opened in 1842 by 9th Mito Domain Lord Tokugawa Nariaki wishing to create a place to 'enjoy with the people.' About 100 varieties and 3,000 plum trees attract crowds during spring's Plum Festival. Kobuntei offers beautiful views of Lake Senba and city.

Hitachi Seaside Park
National park with seasonal flowers across 350ha. Spring Nemophila, summer Zinnia, and autumn crimson Kochia are world-renowned, with spectacular flower color gradients covering hills. Cycling and athletic facilities also abundant.

Fukuroda Falls
Counted among 'Japan's Three Great Waterfalls' for its power cascading 120m high and 73m wide in four stages. Observation platform elevator allows close-up views, with magical winter 'frozen falls' and autumn foliage illumination.

Mount Tsukuba
Sacred peak comprising Nyotaisan (877m) and Nantaisan (871m). Cable car and ropeway provide easy summit access, with 'Purple Peak' panoramic views of Kanto Plain. Tsukuba Shrine inner shrine at summit and toad oil seller performances also famous.

Kashima Jingu Shrine
Ancient shrine of Eastern Japan said to have been founded in 660 BC. Enshrines Takemikazuchi-no-Okami, known for victory and martial fortune blessings. Historical romance pervades with 1,200-year-old sacred tree, deer garden, and cornerstone.
