A festival of Yasaka Shrine continuing since the Heian period. Throughout July, diverse events such as yoiyama and yamahoko processions are held for a month.

Procession started to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the capital relocation to Heian. Costumes trace time backward from Meiji to Heian periods.

Gozan Okuribi (Five Mountain Bonfires)
To send off ancestral spirits during Obon, fire characters light up on five mountains around Kyoto City. The representative Daimonji is on Mt. Nyoigadake in Higashiyama.
