Fukushima
Fukushima Prefecture comprises three regions: Nakadori sandwiched between the Ou Mountains and Abukuma Highlands, Aizu with its Sea of Japan climate, and the temperate Hamadori facing the Pacific Ocean, each with distinct climate, industry, and dialect. Historical landscapes like Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle, Byakkotai sites, and thatched-roof Ouchi-juku remain preserved, while Lake Inawashiro and Mount Bandai offer year-round outdoor activities. Nakadori, centered on prefectural capital Fukushima City and commercial hub Koriyama City, serves as a transportation and economic center, renowned for agricultural products like peaches and rice. Hamadori features strong port town culture in Iwaki and Soma cities, with attractions including cutting-edge aquariums and extensive coastal scenery. Having experienced the 2011 earthquake and nuclear accident, recovery and reconstruction efforts draw national attention. With excellent access from Tokyo via shinkansen (minimum 80 minutes), Fukushima offers concentrated hot springs, cuisine, nature, and festivals as an all-season tourist destination.
