Kagoshima
Kagoshima Prefecture is located at the southernmost tip of Kyushu, comprising the mainland Satsuma and Osumi peninsulas plus remote islands including Tanegashima, Yakushima, and the Amami archipelago spanning 600km. Active volcanic activity including Sakurajima provides abundant hot spring resources, with famous destinations like Ibusuki's natural sand baths and Kirishima Onsen-kyo. Yakushima and Amami Oshima-Tokunoshima are registered as World Natural Heritage sites, with Jomon Cedar and unique ecosystems attracting global attention. Historically, the Shimazu clan as Satsuma Domain led the late Edo Restoration, producing many great figures including Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi. Specialties like kurobuta pork, kuroushi beef, satsuma-age, and shochu fascinate food lovers worldwide, while combining warm southern climate with typhoon-prone weather conditions.
