Kumamoto Castle
A famous castle built by Kato Kiyomasa in 1607, featuring one of Japan's largest scales and characteristic musha-gaeshi curved stone walls. Although damaged in the 2016 earthquake, the keep has been restored and welcomes tourists again as a symbol of recovery. The grounds include cherry blossom viewing spots and historical cultural experience facilities, with popular nighttime illuminations.

Mount Aso Nakadake Crater
An active volcano towering at the center of one of the world's largest Aso calderas. Kurokawa Onsen
An atmospheric hot spring resort where over 30 inns are scattered across the mountain valleys at the northern foot of Aso. Popular for strolling in yukata through charming wooden streets and using a shared bath pass to tour three outdoor baths. Bamboo lanterns create a warm ambiance at night.
