Oita
Oita Prefecture is a nature-rich region in the northeastern part of Kyushu, facing the Seto Inland Sea and Bungo Channel. It is a hot spring kingdom ranking first in Japan for both the number of sources and water discharge volume. Traditional hot spring therapy culture has taken root in areas like Beppu and Yufuin, offering diverse bathing experiences from seaside sand baths to steam baths using geothermal vents. The inland area is dominated by the Kuju Mountains and Sobo-Katamuki mountain ranges, popular as meccas for mountaineering, trekking, and stargazing. The Seto Inland Sea side enjoys a mild climate, with a rich food culture featuring luxury fish like Sekiaji and Sekisaba, Joshita flounder, Bungo beef, and agricultural and marine products represented by Kabosu citrus. From the Edo period, townscapes nurtured under multi-domain and shogunate control remain, with abundant national treasure-class historical resources such as Usa Jingu Shrine and Usuki Stone Buddhas. The prefecture is well-connected by airports, expressways, and ferry networks, serving as a key hub for Kyushu-wide tours.
